70 years ago, on April 4, 1949, the United States, Belgium, Great Britain, Holland, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Canada, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and France signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington. The military-political North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created. Greece and Turkey joined the treaty in 1952, Germany in 1955, and Spain in 1982.
