63-year-old African priest married a 12-year-old girl
Ghanaians were outraged by the marriage of 63-year-old influential priest Nuumo Borketei Lawe Tsuru XXXIII and a 12-year-old girl, which took place on March 30. The BBC reports this. By law, the minimum age for marriage in Ghana is 18 years. The prevalence of child marriages has decreased in recent years, but they still occur. According to the NGO Girls Not Brides, cited by the BBC, 19% of Ghanaians still get married before reaching adulthood, 5% before the age of 15.
