The Federation Council approved amendments to the law "On Combating Extremist Activities"
On July 14, 2006, the Federation Council approved amendments to the law "On Counteracting Extremist Activity" adopted on July 8 by the State Duma in the third reading. The amendments, which overly expanded the concept of "extremist activity", were approved by the senators by a majority of votes: 133 votes in favor, 4 against, and the left abstained. However, the criticism of the ambiguity of the wording of the law, voiced at the meeting, was supported by the Chairman of the Federation Council.
