On January 12, 2009, the City Court of St. Petersburg issued a sentence under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (committing a terrorist attack) in a criminal case concerning two terrorist attacks committed in the city on February 4 and February 18, 2007.

On December 31, 2008, a decree of the Russian government was signed, delimiting the ownership of monuments of federal significance located in St. Petersburg.
