A court in the Ulyanovsk region will hear the case of six Jehovah's Witnesses accused under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code. On April 16, 2020, the Ulyanovsk Region Prosecutor's Office announced that it had approved the indictment in the criminal case of six Jehovah's Witnesses charged under part 1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organization of the activities of an extremist organization) and part 2 of the same article (participation in the activities of an extremist organization).

On April 15, 2020, the federal list of extremist materials was updated. The list was supplemented by Islamist videos, a video of nationalist content, anti-Semitic materials, the artist's song "Listen to the exorcist", a book by Pyotr Khomyakov and a video of Goebbels' speech. The Court of Appeal approved the punishment for Enver Seitosmanov, convicted under Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code for involvement in the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir party, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.

In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, authorities in most regions have demanded that religious organizations limit believers’ visits to churches. Patriarch Kirill also called on believers not to visit churches on Easter. Corresponding orders were issued in Moscow and many other dioceses. However, in some cases, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church refused to restrict parishioners from visiting churches.
