Sentences Tightened for Jehovah's Witnesses Monis and Kaganovich
The court of appeal commuted the punishment of another Jehovah's Witness from Birobidzhan from a small fine to a suspended sentence. On May 12, 2021, the court of the Jewish Autonomous Region satisfied the prosecutor’s appeal and toughened the punishment for Svetlana Monis, a follower of the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses, by sentencing her to two and a half years of suspended liberty with one year of restraint of liberty.
