I would like to dispel one common myth that "everything is bad in Russian medicine, but in the American, on the contrary, it is good." I’ll tell you the story that happened to me today in the best hospital in the city-I just need to do an ultrasound. But I had a low hemoglobin, and I had all the risks to fall. Therefore, for the procedure in another building - and the hospital occupies several quarters - I was taken not on an armchair (that the usual practice for not seriously ill patients), but on a gurney.
The procedure was ordered for me for two days (in the USA it is a lot, usually everyone does on the same day). We were taken with all the parade - in a mask (I have low leukocytes), covering with a blanket. We looped for a long time and finally arrived. And they put in the waiting area ... for 40 minutes surrounded by other sick people. Then they made an ultrasound for a long time and stubbornly, at the end of the procedure, they set me there to wait for a transport worker who would be lucky with the gurney back to the ward. I waited honestly for 40 minutes. No one.
He called the manager, clarified whether he would be soon. "Yes, in a couple of minutes!" Ten minutes later, I called him again and said: “Finding here threatens my life. If there is no transporter now, I will go on foot. And for my possible falls, the hospital will be responsible in court. ” The employee did not believe, he again lied: "That's all!"
This has not yet happened in this hospital: the patient got up from the gurney and, without any support, along the wall, gently went into the corridor - to the elevators. He waited for the elevator on which it was written: “only for accompanying persons and staff,” and under the surprised views of the same staff went to the floor of the transition between the buildings. I hung up to the transition and here's luck - I found an empty wheelchair. Immediately plopped into it and began to study management. I went on the way, which I still saw once when they brought me to the procedure.
When I rolled out to the post of nurse in a stroller - myself, without compulsory support - they jumped from places. When I explained to them what happened, they rushed to call the hospital management. Tomorrow it will meet me in my ward. Will I agree to pay for such a procedure? Well, this is unlikely. In the USA it is not customary to endure such humiliation.
