What happened to the heroes that Medusa wrote about in 2016

Many people who happened to become heroes of journalistic publications soon after that are forgotten by readers and reporters. To prevent this from happening, at the end of each year, Medusa returns to the main plots and heroes that we wrote about over the past twelve months. This text was prepared by Medusa correspondents Ilya Zhegulev, Daniil Turovsky, Sasha Sulim, Evgeny Berg, as well as Ilya Azar and Katerina Gordeeva, who are no longer full -time employees of the publication.

North Korean refugee

In January 2016, Medusa told the history of the escape and life of the North Korean Kim, to which the FMS of Russia refused to grant refugee status. This threatened the man with a deportation to his homeland, in the DPRK, where he could be expected by prison and execution.

In the spring of 2016, Kim received a certificate of temporary asylum for a year. After that, according to the human rights activist Elena Burtina from Civil Assistance, the shelter was given to him in the United States. In the summer of 2016, he disappeared from the field of view of human rights defenders. In September, Kim called them from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and explained that, having learned about obtaining permission, he decided to get to the United States on his own. To do this, he bought a boat and a motor - however, having already entered the ocean, he realized that he could not swim it like that. Kim returned to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and soon flew to the United States, where he now lives.

Laws on charitable NGOs

In the winter and in the spring of 2016, Medusa wrote a lot about the draft amendments to the law “On Foreign Agents”, which could turn the activities of Russian charitable agents into political (from the point of view of the state).

As a result, amendments in the original form were never adopted, and non -profit organizations and their possible cooperation with the state in the social sphere became one of the maintopics of President Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly in December.

Anastasia Jallul

In February 2016, Medusa spoke about Nastya Jallul (Terekhova) - an orphan from the capital Degunino, adopted by a Syrian citizen and illegally exported from Russia to Syria in 2010, shortly before the start of the war. Grandmother Terekhova, who tried to contact her granddaughter, knew nothing about her fate for many years.

Soon after the publication of the material, a video appeared on Russian television confirming that the girl was alive and well. From the video, which was at the disposal of television people, presumably through the new wife of Father Anastasia Jallul, it follows that the girl, together with her father and numerous half -brothers and sisters, managed to move from Syria to Turkey and is safe. In words, Grandmother Jallulus handed that the father of Anastasia was not even opposed to Nastya to see her grandmother. Since then, however, he did not get in touch - but his grandmother hopes to see his granddaughter in 2017.

Imam Nabi Sildinsky

At the end of February 2016, Medusa published material on how security officials in Dagestan close the Salafi mosques and persecute parishioners who profess ultra -conservative Islam. In particular, Imam Khasavyurt mosque Muhammad Nabi Sildinsky told how he organized a thousands of protest against religious persecution. He explained that he had to hide in his mosque in order to avoid provocations.

On April 8, 2016, Sildinsky was detained and accused of public justification of terrorism (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and hatred (Article 282). The investigation found controversial statements in one of his speeches. On October 24, 2016, the courtsentenced Imam to five years in prison.

Pilice Nadezhda Savchenko

The process of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, who was accused of involvement in the murder of two VGTRK employees in the Luhansk region, ended in the spring of 2016. Savchenko behaved defiantly, made political statements in the courtroom. In response to a request for an interview, Savchenko sent a written response to journalist Ilya Azar, in which, for example, she said: “You are an arrogant person, you are used to setting yourself above others, you treat people like a garbage. This was noticeable from the pose in which you were sitting in the courtroom and according to the facial reaction of your person to what was happening in court. ”

At the end of March, the court sentenced Savchenko to 22 years in prison. Still in jail, she managed to become a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Fatherland Party Yulia Tymoshenko and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. On May 25, Savchenko was exchanged for Russians detained in the Luhansk region, Yevgeny Erofeev and Alexander Alexandrov, and she returned to her homeland.

What happened to Erofeev and Alexandrov is unknown - they have not made a single public statement since then. And Savchenko at the airport was met by Yulia Tymoshenko. On the same day, President Petro Poroshenko accepted it. At the same time, both experienced Ukrainian politicians did not hide: they do not understand what can be expected from Savchenko and even be afraid of it.

Already on May 27, two days after the release, she stated that she was ready to nominate the presidency of Ukraine. In July, she did not rule out : in order to overcome corruption "she will have to become a dictator." In December, she without any authority met in Minsk with the heads of self -proclaimed DPR and LPR - to discuss the exchange of prisoners. This caused an extremely sharp reaction of official Kyiv: Savchenko was excluded from the party and from the Ukrainian delegation in PACE. On December 24, she called the current Ukrainian authorities “criminal”.

Businessman Dmitry Kamenchik

The story of the owner of Domodedovo, who was concluded under house arrest in the case of a terrorist attack at the airport (2011), “Medusa” told in March 2016. At that moment, people from the environment of the mason and business representatives were sure: the criminal prosecution was started with one purpose - to convince the entrepreneur to sell the airport. As a potential buyer, one of the companies of a close friend of Vladimir Putin Arkady Rotenberg was most often called.

In the summer, the mason was released from the arrest. And in September, the case against him was completely terminated in exchange for compensation to the victims of the attack. A similar story happened a year earlier with Vladimir Yevtushenkov, but he ended up his stake in Bashneft shares. The mason still retains control of the Domodedovo airport.

Admission of loved ones to intensive care

In April 2016, at the next “direct line”, President Vladimir Putin left without a concrete answer the question of providing the opportunity to close relatives near patients in intensive care. Immediately after this, Medusa published material about what these rules lead to: parents cannot see their children, no matter what serious condition they are.

Soon after the publication, Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Health "to ensure methodological support of the regions on the issue of the admission of relatives and friends to patients in intensive care and the intensive care unit." In early December, the appropriate methodological manual was sent to the heads of hospitals throughout Russia.

Gay hunters

In April 2016, Medusa spoke about groups that hunt homosexuals: several gangs in St. Petersburg lured gays on “dates”, and then beat and extorted money from the victims.

In October, two participants in one of the groups were convicted . One of them received two years and three months of prison, the other was sentenced to two years conditionally and released in the courtroom.

Mikhail Prokhorov and RBC

In May 2016, Medusa published material on how businessman Mikhail Prokhorov controls his media assets and experiences the pressure of the authorities dissatisfied with the investigations entering RBC. Two weeks later, patience exhausted: after the passing (by the standards of other materials) publication in the newspaper that opposite the Palace of Putin in the south of Russia will breed oysters, the editor -in -chief of the newspaper Maxim Solus was dismissed; Together with him, the editor-in-chief of the RBC Elizabeth Ossetian and the editor-in-chief of the site Roman Badanin went away.

The new editorial leadership of the holding at the very first meeting with the team, the decryption of which was published by Medusa, spoke about the “double continuous” - and that it should not be crossed. Elizabeth Ossetian went to study at Stanford; Roman Badanin in the summer headed the Rain TV channel - and actively rebuilds it .

Nikita Belykh

On June 24, 2016 , in a Moscow restaurant, when receiving a bribe of 150 thousand euros, the governor of the Kirov region Nikita Belykh was detained (the next day). Medusa told in detail how the former leader of the “Union of Right Forces” turned into a “systemic liberal” and how he led the Kirov region.

Since then, the official has not pleaded guilty (he claims that the money was intended for the needs of the city; the Reuters investigation claimed that they could go to the United Russia election campaign). White continues to sit in a pre -trial detention center in anticipation of the court, but regularly falls into the news. So, in October it became known that the whites were going to marry, and in November Vedomosti reported that the Kremlin allegedly suggested that the whites testify against Alexei Navalny in exchange for liberation from the pre -trial detention center. In addition, the New Gazeta published a letter from the Belykh, in which he suggested that liberals of uniforms “work” and “build parties”.

Preacher of the "Islamic state"

In May 2015, the preacher of the Islamic State Murad Ataev (the imam of the Berlin mosque, which the authorities considered the place of recruiting the militants) in an interview with Medusa told how the IS is arranged, how the group recruits supporters and how much “Russian -speaking militants” are valued in the self -superfluous caliphate.

In June 2016, the Berlin court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison for supporting the actions of the IG and recruiting new members of the group. As evidence in court, Ataev’s entries on the SHAMTODAY website and an interview with Medusa were considered.

Former Governor of Sevastopol Sergey Avayolo

The former head of the state -owned enterprise "Crimean Sea Ports" Sergey Avayylo in the spring of 2014 became the governor of Sevastopol. His work was not arguing: in particular, there was a serious conflict with the former “People’s mayor” of the city Alexei Chalym.

On the eve of the second anniversary of the “Crimean spring”, the governor Chanipolo gave an unprecedented five -hour interview with Medusa (supporters of chalogo in private conversations called such a timing by another proof of its security, In an interview, he, in particular, recommended the Crimean Tatars to settle “high and high in the mountains”-this statement caused indignation among the Tatars.

The opponents of the channel continued the struggle with the head of the region, and in July 2016 she was successful: Chanipolo left the post of Governor of Sevastopol of his own free will, and his place was taken by the deputy minister of industry and trade of the Russian Federation Dmitry Ovsynnikov. In November, the Sevastopol parliament introduced direct elections of the head of the region. Chanyilo himself went to the post of presidential envoy to the Siberian Federal District, where he evaluates how well the regions fulfill the decrees of Vladimir Putin.

Russian captive in Syria Konstantin Zhuravlev

In July 2015, Medusa published the history of the Russian traveler Konstantin Zhuravlev, who was captured by the Syrian Islamists in October 2013. At first, the militants demanded that his parents go out in Moscow for pickets against the war in Syria, and then tried to exchange Zhuravlev for soldiers who were in prison with the government forces of Syria in Damascus. After January 2015, there was no news of Zhuravlev.

On October 14, 2016, the FSB suddenly reported his release. Zhuravlev returned to his native Tomsk, and two months later he met with a Medusa correspondent and told in detail how he spent 1096 days in captivity.

Protects for stray animals

In July, Medusa spoke about the structure of Moscow municipal shelters for homeless animals. This happened after in the metropolitan district of Veshnyaki, zoo defenders found dozens of dead animals on the territory of the private nursery of the Eco Organization. The company, which animal defenders called the "flaws", served half of the municipal shelters of Moscow.

In the summer, Eco has lost almost all contracts; True, the firms that replaced her also had a dubious reputation.

Since January 2017, commercial organizations should leave this area. On August 2, the Moscow City Hall transferred responsibility for the shelters of the State Budgetary Institution "Roads". As the lawyer and zoo defender Svetlana Zibert told Medusa, the authorities plan to serve shelters using full -time road workers and cancel tenders to manage shelters in this area.

The head of Eco, Vera Petrosyan, in a conversation with Medusa, said that in 2017 the organization would take up the existing two private shelters in Tsaritsyno. On December 31, the organization has the last contract with the Moscow authorities.

Oppositionist Mikhail Khodorkovsky

In August, Medusa published a text about what the former head of Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky is doing after leaving prison: it turned out, in particular, that his open Russia website tried unsuccessfully to re -bell out, and the oligarch himself helped the opposition policy Alexei Navalny with money for lawyers.

According to the results of the article, Khodorkovsky either jokingly, or seriously promised to hold a glider on Facebook - with a discussion of its content. A month later, he announced the competition of startups and promised to finance not one, but several media projects, investing each from five to 30 million rubles a year; Five such projects have already been selected and will be launched in January. Another new media under Khodorkovsky is called the Center for Investigation Management and publishes, respectively, investigations on relevant topics on the basis of “Open Russia”.

He continued Khodorkovsky to engage in political activities: he first announced the search for candidates who could replace Vladimir Putin at the post of President of Russia (Longlist included, for example, Grigory Yavlinsky and journalist Olga Beshley), and also promised to study 400 candidates for municipal deputies for the upcoming elections in Moscow.

Women's circumcision in Dagestan

In mid -August 2016, the international organization Legal Initiative published a report “Production of crippling operations on genitals in girls in Dagestan”. Similar practices are called female circumcision, in 2012 they were prohibited by the UN, as they violate women's rights to health, safety and physical immunity.

The report was violently discussed; In support of the practice, few performed. Among them was the chairman of the coordination center of the Muslims of the North Caucasus Mufti Ismail Berdiev. He stated that “all women” should be cut so that “there is no debauchery on Earth”. Later, in an interview with Medusa, Berdiev admitted that he was joking - and that female circumcision alien to Islam is a tradition.

At the end of October, the Dagestan prosecutor's office said that the audit did not confirm information about female circumcision in some areas of the republic. Mufti Berdiev continues to speak out on resonant topics. For example, in mid-December, he suggested “blowing to the damn mother“ Yeltsin Center ”in Yekaterinburg.

School No. 57

At the end of August 2016, the Medusa journalist Ekaterina Krongauz told Facebook about the teacher of the Moscow school No. 57 (is considered one of the best in the capital), who for many years harassed students and students. Soon his name was named - Boris Meerson. The story echoed with the flash mob that had just happened #I will be shutdown; The situation around the school was discussed on the Internet, in the Moscow City Hall, and on federal television channels. Victims of harassment performed on the Internet, there were accusations against other teachers of the educational institution.

Many parents of the current school students sided with the school leadership, which stated that Meerson was fired a month before the scandal. Meerson himself, by the time of the beginning of the scandal, had already lived in Israel.

As a result of the conflict, the school principal Sergei Mendelevich and two heads quit . The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article “Depraved actions” in relation to minors against Meerson - and also in Israel of the former student and teacher of school No. 57, Maria Nemzer. The new director of the school was appointed former vice -rector of the Russian Economic School Andrei Bremzen. He refused an interview with Medusa. None of the leaders and teachers of the school communicates with the press. To discuss and prevent such situations, the Governing Council was created in the 57th school-it included teachers and graduates.

Convicted Ildar Dadin

On November 1, Medusa published a letter from Ildar Dadin, the first in Russia, convicted under the article of the Criminal Code on repeated violation of the rules of street actions-on torture in IK-7 in Karelia. In a letter, he said that the colony officers, including her chief Sergei Kossiev, are beaten and tortured by Dadin himself and other prisoners. Two days later, Tatyana Moskalkova, the Commissioner for Human Rights, arrived at the activist. She suggested transferring Dadin to another colony in order to avoid “suspicions of bias or subjective approach” to the activist. The European Court of Human Rights accepted Dadin's complaint about torture and appropriated her priority status.

On November 9, Medusa published a second letter to Dadin in which he said that after the intervention of Moskalkova and the arrival of members of the Human Rights Council under the president of the beating and torture of imprisoned in IK-7, they did not stop.

Checking the FSIN did not find evidence that Dadina was tortured. The deputy head of the FSIN Valery Maksimenko called the activist "a very talented imitator." The Office of the IC of the Russian Federation in Karelia alsodid not find confirmation of the words of the convict. Whereas Medusa also spoke about other colonies, where prisoners are systematically tortured.

On December 5, Ildara Dadina was transferred from IK-7. The FSIN called the reason for this translation "ensuring personal security." The wife of Dadina Anastasia Zotova told Medusa that her husband was allegedly sent to one of the colonies in the Kirov region, but as of December 30, there is still no exact data on the whereabouts of Dadin.
