In the summer of 2021, the nature of political violence in Russia has changed. The repressive system, assembled from individual bills and amendments—four types of “foreign agents,” a register of “undesirable” organizations, and a list of extremists—worked as a single whole. Having crushed the opposition, the state attacked the media. Since April, seven editorial offices and 20 more journalists have been declared “foreign agents.” One media outlet has become an “undesirable” organization.
