For the first time since 1975, Russia has a negative migration balance; by the end of the year, the country's population will decrease by more than a million people
The “partial mobilization” announced on September 21 provoked an unprecedented flight of citizens from the country in terms of mass and intensity, which became the second wave of anti-war emigration since the end of February. Data on the first wave are approximate, but the negative migration balance in the first half of the year amounted to about 100 thousand people, reports the demographic survey of the HSE Institute of Demography “Demoscope Weekly”.

The Journey from 1945 to 1941
According to sociological data, Russia’s mobilisation came as a shock to its citizens. Even among the war’s supporters it is possible to identify at least three different parties with their own justifications and interpretations of current events. How will each of these react to the new reality of war?

The "partial mobilisation" announced on September 21 provoked an unprecedented mass and intensive flow of citizens from the country, which became the second wave of anti-war emigration since late February. The data on the first wave is approximate. Still, the negative balance of migration in the first half of the year reached about 100 thousand people, according to a demographic survey of the Institute of Demography of the Higher School of Economics, "Demoscope Weekly".

Paradoxes of Adjustment: long-term economic expectations worsen, but lowered expectations make assessments of current income and economic situation more positive
Consumer sentiment and economic assessments of the Russians surveyed show that they are adjusting to the current situation. At the same time, long-term expectations of the country's economic development prospects are worsening. The poorer groups are more severely affected by the crisis. But the reduced expectations about improving one's well-being lead to a more optimistic assessment of the current financial situation.

Paradoxes of adaptation: long-term economic expectations worsen, but reduced aspirations make assessments of current income and economic situation more positive
Consumer sentiment and economic assessments of Russians surveyed indicate adaptation to the current situation. At the same time, long-term expectations for the country's economic development prospects are deteriorating. Poorer groups are being hit harder by the crisis. But lowering aspirations regarding the possibility of improving one’s well-being leads to more optimistic assessments of the current financial situation.
